Fichajes reports that Atletico Madrid, Arsenal, and Chelsea aim to strengthen their attack for the upcoming season, targeting Villarreal talent Alex Baena. The 22-year-old midfielder’s promising ascent has drawn interest from all three clubs.

Baena entered Villarreal’s youth setup in summer 2017, swiftly progressing to their first team by summer 2020. After a successful loan at Girona in 2021/22, he secured regular playing time.

Presently, the 22-year-old midfielder plays a pivotal role, tallying 18 goals in 37 appearances this season, with five goals and 13 assists to his credit.

Baena’s remarkable ascent has attracted attention, with several clubs poised to pursue the Spanish talent from Villarreal this summer. Despite Villarreal extending his contract until 2028 last year, Arsenal and Chelsea are eager suitors.

Although his release clause was raised to €35 million, it’s unlikely to deter interest. Chelsea, with their focus on nurturing young talent, sees Baena as a valuable addition.

For Arsenal, acquiring Baena would provide essential support for captain Martin Odegaard and versatility in midfield, a significant asset for Mikel Arteta’s squad.
