Tusker FC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over hosts Ulinzi Stars in an intense FKF Premier League showdown at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. Erick Kapaito’s decisive second-half goal was the pivotal moment that earned the Brewers three valuable points, propelling them to third place in the league standings. Meanwhile, Ulinzi Stars remained in 13th place, maintaining a four-point buffer above the relegation zone.

The match began with a somber tone as both teams observed a minute’s silence in honor of Gen Ogolla, the fallen Chief of Defence Forces, and the nine military officers who tragically lost their lives in a recent helicopter crash. Players wore black armbands as a mark of respect for the fallen heroes.

Ulinzi Stars started brightly, applying early pressure that forced Tusker FC to defend deep in their own half. The first notable chance came in the 24th minute when Issa Lumumba tested Tusker goalkeeper Brian Bwire with a shot from a corner.

Tusker grew into the game towards the end of the first half, with Eric Kapaito and Chris Erambo coming close to breaking the deadlock. Kapaito missed a close-range opportunity, while Erambo’s shot was deflected behind for a corner.

In the 51st minute, Tusker took the lead when Eric Kapaito capitalized on defensive lapses, running behind the Ulinzi defense to score from close range.

As Ulinzi Stars pushed for an equalizer, Tusker’s goalkeeper Brian Bwire showcased his heroics, making several crucial saves to preserve his team’s lead. Bwire’s outstanding performance included denying Ibrahim Shami and Brian Ongoma with crucial saves.

Tusker FC managed to hold on to their slender lead until the final whistle, securing a vital 1-0 victory away from home. Bwire’s exceptional goalkeeping display was instrumental in ensuring Tusker’s triumph, lifting them to a commendable position in the league standings.
