Wilfried Zaha handed one-match ban and fine for improper conduct at Southampton

The Crystal Palace winger accepted the charge on Wednesday at an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.

Zaha was sent off against Southampton after reacting angrily to referee Andre Marriner’s decision not to award a free-kick and subsequently sarcastically applauding the official.

The suspension is not currently effective while the player considers his right of appeal, so Zaha may yet be available for selection against West Ham on Saturday at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace are 14th in the Premier League, four points above the relegation zone.

Zaha is one of Palace’s most important attacking players, with four goals and five assists in the league this season.
