K’Ogalo, who went into the game seeking a seventh straight win and were also eyeing to seal a double over Batoto ba Mungu, took time to get their usual rhythm as they struggled to cope with the playing surface at Thika.
K’Ogalo sealed their win in the 75th minute when midfielder Kenneth Muguna set up Burundian striker Jules Ulimwengu, who powered home a low-footed effort past keeper Kevin Omondi for what turned out to be the only goal of the match.
The win saw Gor Mahia move third on the standings with 37 points, five off leaders KCB, who have played a match more.
In another match of the day, Chrispinus Onyango’s goal gave Tusker a 1-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks at the Utalii Grounds.
Onyango rose highest to head home a Miseh cross at the back post and hand his team a deserved lead.
Sharks were presented with a chance to equalise when Eric Kapaito was fouled inside the box, but Wanjala saved Mokaya’s spot-kick.
The win saw Tusker move to 41 points, one behind KCB, who beat Mathare United on Saturday.
In the other match of the day, Posta Rangers played out a 0-0 draw against Bidco United.
