Football Kenya Federation has received a major boost after FIFA officially lifted the financial sanction that had halted development funding, paving the way for the resumption of FIFA Forward support and renewed momentum for grassroots football across the country.

Football Kenya Federation has confirmed that FIFA has officially lifted the financial sanction that had led to the suspension of development funding under the FIFA Forward Programme, marking a significant turning point for the administration of the game in the country.

In an official statement dated Monday, December 15, 2025, FKF announced that FIFA’s Governance, Audit and Compliance Committee reviewed the federation’s progress following a central audit and resolved to reinstate the standard release of development funds with immediate effect.

According to FKF, the decision was communicated through a letter from FIFA, which noted the positive steps taken by the federation in implementing an agreed action plan and the improved outcomes recorded during the audit process. As a result, development funding that had been frozen is now fully reinstated.

Despite the resumption of funding, FKF will continue to operate under a monthly reporting mechanism on the use of FIFA Forward funds until at least the next GACC meeting scheduled for March 2026. The federation says this oversight is part of continued efforts to strengthen transparency and accountability.

FKF President Hussein Mohammed welcomed the decision, describing it as a major milestone in the federation’s ongoing reform journey and a strong endorsement of the direction Kenyan football is taking.

“This decision by FIFA is a strong vote of confidence in the direction we are taking as a federation. Step by step, we are fixing Kenyan football by strengthening governance, improving financial management, and restoring credibility at all levels,” said Mohammed.

He added that the outcome was the result of collective effort and discipline within the federation, stressing that FKF remains committed to meeting all FIFA requirements and ensuring that the funds are used transparently and strictly for football development.

“This has been achieved through hard work, discipline and collective responsibility by the FKF leadership and secretariat. We remain fully committed to meeting all FIFA requirements and ensuring that these resources are used solely for the development of football in Kenya,” he noted.

The resumption of FIFA Forward funding is expected to provide a major boost to FKF programmes, particularly in grassroots football, infrastructure development, capacity building and overall growth of the game across the country.

FKF reiterated its commitment to upholding the highest standards of governance, accountability and financial integrity as it continues to work closely with FIFA to strengthen football structures in Kenya and support sustainable long term development of the sport.
