Wesley Strike Lifts Roma Past Como at Olimpico

Roma returned to winning ways on Monday night with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Como, thanks to a well taken second half goal from Wesley that finally broke the visitors resistance.

The first half was evenly balanced, with Roma enjoying more of the ball but struggling to turn possession into clear chances. Como remained organised and compact, limiting space in midfield and frustrating the hosts, who were forced to settle for efforts from distance and crowded penalty area situations.

Roma thought they had created the breakthrough moments before the interval, but finishing let them down and Jean Butez stood firm in the Como goal. The teams went into the break goalless, with the home crowd growing restless despite Roma control of the tempo.

The decisive moment arrived just after the hour mark. Matias Soule slipped a smart pass into the right side of the box, where Wesley arrived with purpose and drilled a low right footed shot into the bottom corner to give Roma the lead.

The goal injected urgency into Como, who pushed higher up the pitch in search of an equaliser. They came close on several occasions, forcing Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar into key saves as the match opened up in the final stages.

Roma, however, defended with discipline and experience, slowing the game down when required and seeing out a tense finish that included several late stoppages and bookings. Substitute Leon Bailey almost doubled the advantage deep into stoppage time, but Butez denied him with a sharp save.

At the final whistle, Roma claimed a narrow but important victory that keeps them firmly in the hunt in the upper half of the Serie A table. For Como, the defeat was a reminder of the fine margins at this level, though their resilience and organisation will offer encouragement moving forward.
