Kenya will be proudly represented in the CAF Champions League final tonight as two of its top referees take up key officiating roles in one of Africa’s biggest football matches.

Gilbert Cheruiyot and Stephen Yiembe have been named as the 1st and 2nd assistant referees respectively for the second leg of the CAF Champions League final between Egypt’s Pyramids FC and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns. The highly anticipated clash will take place at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo.

The two Kenyan officials will be working alongside centre referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan from Somalia, who will take charge of the final whistle in this continental showdown.

This appointment is a significant recognition of the growing reputation of Kenyan referees on the international football stage. Both Cheruiyot and Yiembe have built impressive résumés, having officiated in major continental and international matches over the years.

Kenyan football fans will have even more reason to tune in to tonight’s final, not just to witness the crowning of Africa’s club champion, but also to cheer on their own representatives on the pitch.
