Nairobi United Cruise Past Shabana With Stunning Late Goal
- Nairobi United delivered a commanding performance to beat Shabana 3-0 at Kasarani, with Mustafa Kizza’s sensational halfway-line strike sealing a memorable SportPesa League victory.
Nairobi United produced a polished and ruthless display to dismantle Shabana FC 3-0 and complete a league double in their SportPesa League clash at the Moi International Sports Centre on Sunday evening.
The result lifts the Naibois to 38 points and into seventh place, while Shabana remain fifth on 43 points after missing a crucial opportunity to break into the top three.
The match began at a high tempo, with Nairobi United asserting early intent. Enock Machaka tested the Shabana defence in the sixth minute with a powerful long-range effort that forced attention from the goalkeeper.
Shabana responded after 15 minutes when Austin Odongo rose highest to meet a cross, but his header drifted narrowly wide in what was their first real opening.
Moments later, Nairobi United came close to a spectacular opener. Defender Lennox Ogutu attempted an audacious lob from distance after spotting the goalkeeper off his line, only to see his effort crash against the crossbar.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 28th minute through Dancan Omalla. The forward reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the box and fired home emphatically, continuing his impressive record against Shabana this season.
Shabana nearly hit back immediately, with Derrick Otieno unleashing a fierce left-footed strike that required a sharp save from Nairobi United goalkeeper Bernard Jairo.
The hosts doubled their advantage ten minutes before the break with a well-worked team goal. Jairo initiated the move with a precise long ball to Machaka, who combined neatly with Michael Karamor before delivering a cutback that Karamor calmly finished to make it 2-0.
Trailing at the restart, Shabana introduced Brian Michira in search of a comeback. The visitors created chances, with Derrick Otieno firing narrowly over from range and Michira later denied by a brilliant point-blank save from Jairo.
Nairobi United continued to threaten on the counter, with Wangaya showcasing impressive footwork before curling an effort just wide, while Omalla was again denied by a strong save from Stephen Ochieng.
As the game opened up, both sides pushed forward, but it was Nairobi United who maintained control and composure in key moments.
Deep into stoppage time, the contest was settled in extraordinary fashion. Following a quick passing move between Wangaya and Lesley Otieno, Mustafa Kizza spotted Ochieng off his line and unleashed a breathtaking strike from the halfway line.
The ball sailed over the goalkeeper and into the net, capping a dominant performance with a Goal of the Season contender and underlining Nairobi United’s superiority on the night.
The emphatic win highlights the growing momentum under coach Godfrey Solo Oduor, as Nairobi United continue to climb the table with confidence and attacking flair.
