Welbeck Brace Fires Brighton Past Liverpool In Crucial Win

Brighton & Hove Albion produced an impressive display to defeat Liverpool 2-1 at the American Express Stadium, strengthening their push for European qualification while deepening the Reds’ recent struggles in the Premier League.

Liverpool pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, with Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones both testing Verbruggen, but the Brighton goalkeeper stood firm to preserve his side’s advantage.

The Seagulls also threatened to extend their lead, with Kaoru Mitoma and Hinshelwood creating late opportunities, but the scoreline remained unchanged.

Brighton managed the final minutes with composure, despite mounting pressure from Liverpool, and saw out the game to secure all three points in front of their home fans.

The result marks Brighton’s fourth win in five Premier League matches, lifting their hopes of finishing in the European qualification spots.

For Liverpool, the defeat extends their winless run in the league to three matches, dealing a significant setback in their bid to secure a top-four finish. With key fixtures ahead, including domestic and European commitments, Arne Slot’s side will need a swift response to keep their season on track.
