AFC Leopards and Sofapaka Settle for a 1-1 Draw in FKF Premier League Match at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, April 7, 2024
Batoto ba Mungu surprised Ingwe by taking the lead in the second minute when Rodgers Kipkemboi skillfully maneuvered past his markers and found the back of the net.
Darius Msagha had an opportunity to extend the lead for the 2009 Premier League champions, but the Ugandan striker hit the post. Another chance arose when Jacob Onyango nearly scored, only for Levis Opiyo to make a stunning save to deny the visitors.
AFC Leopards’ first significant chance came in the 37th minute, but Kayci Odhiambo’s volley missed the target, and Evans Omondi saved a low effort from Victor Omune.
Arthur Gitego had opportunities to equalize and even put AFC Leopards ahead, but his two late first-half chances went unconverted.
As the second half commenced, Omune came close to leveling the score with a header that struck the post. Opiyo continued to stand strong in goal for Ingwe, keeping out a powerful shot from Thomas Kakire.
Ingwe leveled the score in the 58th minute when Omune found the back of the net. Despite conceding, Sofapaka continued to push forward, and Msagha had an opportunity to regain the lead, but Opiyo came up with another crucial save to keep the score level.
Following the draw, Ingwe will maintain their eighth position with 36 points, while Batoto ba Mungu sit in 15th place, just above the relegation zone with 28 points.
In another match held at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, KCB and Bidco United played out a goalless draw, sharing the points
This was a quick rematch for both teams following their recent FKF Cup encounter, which ended in favor of KCB.
The first half of the match lacked significant action, with neither side able to break the deadlock before halftime.
Derrick Otieno was instrumental in creating chances, including a standout opportunity when he set up Philemon Nyakwaka for a clear shot on goal. Unfortunately, Nyakwaka’s attempt went wide from close range.
Haniff Wesonga, Daniel Odiwuor, and Tsuma Said also had scoring opportunities for their teams but were unable to convert. Tsuma, a former midfielder for Thika United and AFC Leopards, was named the man of the match for his performance.
