AFC Leopards Held Again as Winless Run Stretches to Three Matches
AFC Leopards were forced to settle for another disappointing draw after being held 1-1 by Kariobangi Sharks, extending their winless streak to three FKF Premier League matches and denting momentum ahead of the Mashemeji Derby.
AFC Leopards’ search for a much-needed victory will continue after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday, a result that stretched their winless streak in the FKF Premier League to three games.
Ingwe entered the fixture under pressure, having fired blank against Murang’a Seal in their previous outing and falling 2-0 to Mara Sugar before that. Hopes of a strong response quickly faded when Sharks struck first, with teenage sensation Humphrey Aroko finding the opener inside the opening eight minutes.
Leopards struggled to create meaningful chances in a flat first half. Victor Omune, who looked lively throughout, powered through the Sharks defence in the 27th minute only to fire into the side netting. Moments later, Ronald Sichenje tried his luck from long range but failed to trouble the goalkeeper.
Ingwe Fight Back After the Break
The equaliser finally arrived just after the hour mark. A floated free-kick caused problems in the Sharks penalty area, with Kelly Madada’s header cleared off the line, but Omune reacted quickest to stab the ball home and bring Leopards level.
Both sides tightened up after the goal, reducing the game to a tactical battle with few clear openings. For Leopards, the draw represented yet another missed opportunity to build momentum.
What the Result Means for AFC Leopards
Leopards have now drawn five of their nine league fixtures, the joint-highest tally in the division. They sit third on 14 points, five behind leaders Gor Mahia, who still have a match in hand.
The stalemate is far from ideal with the Mashemeji Derby looming next weekend. Gor Mahia enter the clash in blistering form, having won six of their last seven matches, while Ingwe continue to search for consistency.
AFC Leopards will need a significant lift in performance if they are to challenge their arch-rivals and keep their title ambitions alive.
