Article Summary
  • Nairobi United FC have ended weeks of uncertainty by appointing seasoned tactician Godfrey Solo Oduor as head coach, handing him the task of sustaining their domestic rise and delivering on the continental stage.

Nairobi United FC have confirmed the appointment of experienced coach Godfrey Solo Oduor as their new head coach, bringing clarity to a period of speculation that followed the departure of Nicholas Muyoti.

Oduor joins the Naibois from South Sudanese outfit Jamus FC, where he has served as assistant coach since 2024. The move represents one of the most demanding assignments of his coaching career, with Nairobi United balancing domestic ambition and continental expectations.

The FKF Cup holders have been without a substantive head coach since Muyoti left a fortnight ago to take over at Kenya Police FC. In the interim, Technical Director Salim Ali steadied the side, overseeing a short but stable run that yielded one win and two draws from three matches.

Oduor arrives with a strong resume shaped across club and national team football. After leaving Shabana FC in 2024, he joined Jamus FC and quickly became a key figure on the technical bench. His influence was evident as he twice stepped in as interim head coach and played a role in guiding the club to continental qualification.

His coaching journey began at Kibera Black Stars, where between 2016 and 2019 he masterminded a rise from the provincial leagues to the National Super League. He later had two separate stints as head coach of Nzoia Sugar FC and spent four seasons as assistant coach at KCB FC, further sharpening his tactical understanding.

At international level, Oduor has built extensive experience, serving as assistant coach and interim head coach of the Harambee Starlets, and as assistant coach of the Kenya Under 20 national team. Along the way, he worked under respected tacticians such as Andre Casa Mbungo and Wubetu Abate, influences that helped shape his approach to game management and player development.

Expectations at Nairobi United are clear and demanding. Oduor has been tasked with steering the club to at least the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup, securing a top-three finish in the Kenyan Premier League, and defending the FKF Cup to guarantee continental football next season.

There will be little time for easing into the role. His first major test comes on Sunday, January 25, when Nairobi United host Tanzanian side Azam FC in a crucial CAF Confederation Cup group stage match at Nyayo National Stadium.

For Oduor, it is a baptism of fire. For the Naibois, it signals the beginning of a new chapter defined by ambition, belief, and the pursuit of sustained success.
