Tusker Edge Gor Mahia to Shake Up KPL Title Race

Tusker FC dealt a significant blow to Gor Mahia’s title ambitions with a hard-fought 1-0 victory in a Kenya Premier League clash at Wang’uru Stadium on Tuesday.

The result leaves Gor Mahia at the summit with 57 points, but their lead has now been cut to just two points, intensifying pressure from fierce rivals AFC Leopards in an increasingly tense title race.

Tusker’s decisive moment came in the 16th minute when Tanzanian forward Ibrahim Joshua capitalised on a rebound to slot home what proved to be the winning goal.

The strike arrived against the run of play, with Gor Mahia having dominated the early exchanges and created several promising opportunities without finding the breakthrough.

Gor Mahia started brightly, controlling possession and testing the Tusker defence inside the opening ten minutes. However, their inability to convert chances proved costly as the Brewers punished them with ruthless efficiency.

Another golden opportunity fell to Frank Odhiambo in the 52nd minute, but his powerful header from a well-delivered free-kick sailed inches wide.

Gor Mahia introduced fresh legs in the second half, with Samuel Kapen and Kwadwo Adu-Kwaw coming on to inject attacking urgency, while late substitutions signalled a final push for an equaliser.

The defeat compounds Gor Mahia’s recent struggles after a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks earlier in the month, raising concerns at a critical stage of the season.
