United Held as Wolves Snatch Point at Old Trafford

Manchester United ended 2025 with frustration at Old Trafford after being held to a 1-1 draw by struggling Wolves, who showed resilience to leave Manchester with a valuable point.

Manchester United were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after a tense 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their final Premier League match of the year at Old Trafford.

The hosts started brightly and were rewarded midway through the first half when Joshua Zirkzee opened the scoring in the 27th minute. The Dutch forward reacted quickest inside the box after Ayden Heaven’s forward run caused panic in the Wolves defence, with Zirkzee’s effort taking a deflection off Ladislav Krejci to beat Jose Sa.

United continued to push for a second goal, with Benjamin Sesko and Luke Shaw both going close, but Wolves gradually grew into the contest. Their persistence paid off just before the break when Krejci made amends for his earlier deflection by rising highest at a corner to head past Senne Lammens and level the score in the 45th minute.

The second half was open and intense, with chances at both ends. Wolves threatened through Tolu Arokodare and Jhon Arias, while United relied on the energy of their young players, including debutant Bendito Mantato, to drive them forward.

United thought they had snatched a dramatic late winner when Patrick Dorgu tapped home after Sesko’s effort was parried, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside, sparking frustration among the home fans.

Despite late pressure and a flurry of corners, Wolves held firm through seven minutes of added time to secure just their second point of the season. The result leaves United reflecting on missed opportunities, while Wolves will take encouragement from a disciplined display against one of the league’s traditional heavyweights.
