Gareth Southgate has announced his resignation as England manager, ushering in a “new chapter” for the national team. The news comes just days after England’s heartbreaking defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final.

In a statement released by the FA, Southgate expressed his immense pride in representing England as both player and manager. “Leading the team has been the greatest honor,” he said. “I’ve poured my heart and soul into it, but now it’s time for a fresh start.”

Southgate’s departure marks the end of an era that began in 2016. He took the reins following a disastrous Euro 2016 campaign that saw England eliminated by Iceland and the subsequent, brief tenure of Sam Allardyce.
