Arsenal and Liverpool miss out on the signing of Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico, as he’s likely to favour a move to Italy, following his representative’s interview with FC Inter News.
The Argentine left back has played a large part in Ajax’s dramatic campaign, with the Dutch side reaching the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 1997.
Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool were reported to be interested in Tagliafico, who is a relatively late bloomer to European football, making his move to Ajax from his homeland in January last year aged 26.
However, the English clubs, who are both in European semi-finals themselves this season are unlikely to obtain the defender’s signature.
Speaking to FC Inter News, Tagliafico’s representative Ricardo Schlieper said:
Inter and Italian football are always attractive destinations for Argentine players.
Let’s not forget, like it was once said, that we’re Italians who speak Spanish. Everything’s very familiar. It’s like being at home.
Unless things change, the Premier League duo will need to pursue other targets, with Liverpool hoping to replace Alberto Moreno and the Gunners hoping to provide competition for Sead Kolasinac.
