Kenya’s representatives Gor Mahia have advanced to the final preliminary stage of the Caf Confederation Cup.
Football Kenya Federation released a statement saying it had received official communication from the continental football governing body, CAF, confirming the withdrawal of Al Ahly Merowe from the contest.
The CAF Confederation Cup first-round second leg between Gor Mahia and Sudan’s Al-Ahly Merowe was set to take place at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, October 24 at 4pm .
According to a letter signed by CAF’s manager of interclub competitions, Emad Shenouda, Gor Mahia’s opponents have withdrawn from the continental competition.
CAF has stated that a detailed decision will be communicated to all parties concerned in due course.
Gor had travelled to Egypt on October 15, where they faced Al-Ahly in the first leg fixture scooping a 3-1win against their opponents.
The game was played in Egypt, as the Sudanese club did not have any approved stadia back home.
Earlier on Friday, Gor Mahia had announced that up to 10,000 fans would be allowed to attend the CAF Confederation Cup match between them and Al-Ahly Merowe.
