Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor has capped a brilliant start to life in Kenya by winning the SportPesa League Coach of the Month award for October 2025, the first such honour of his K’Ogalo tenure.

The former Ghana national team tactician oversaw a spotless month, steering the record Kenyan champions to three wins in three matches. Gor began their charge with a hard-earned 1–0 victory away to KCB at Dandora Stadium, followed by a commanding 3–0 triumph over Posta Rangers at Nyayo Stadium. They wrapped up the month in style, defeating Mathare United 2–0 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Akonnor’s perfect run saw him edge out strong competition from Tusker FC’s Charles Okere, AFC Leopards’ Fred Ambani and Kakamega Homeboyz coach Patrick Odhiambo. His achievements were recognised with a customized SportPesa League trophy and a KSh 75,000 cash prize.

The honour also completed an October sweep for Gor Mahia, coming hot on the heels of Shariff Musa’s win in the Player of the Month category.

This year marks the introduction of the monthly SportPesa League awards, built on a partnership with local data analytics firm Tisini. The collaboration provides advanced performance insights aimed at improving competitiveness across the league.

In addition to data-driven evaluation, fans also participate in the process, contributing 20% of the final vote through an online poll.

Congratulations to Coach Charles Akonnor and Shariff Musa for their outstanding October performances and deserved recognition.
