The Cecafa club Championships started with a bang for Gor Mahia as they winged a 5-0 win at home to hosts APR on Friday night at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
Kibwage's corner in the 34th minute put K'Ogalo on the move to make it 1-0 to the Kenyan champions.
Patrick Essombe doubled the lead, just a minute later. With APR's central defenders unable to mark him, the forward fired a low shot from the edge of the box.
New recruits have left their imprint
Gor Mahia was again in control following the interval, when new signing Paul Okoth also scored, in the 73rd minute.
After cutting through the opposition with a left foot, Okoth was well placed to tap in after a low cross from the left.
With Charles Akkonor's side now in control, six minutes later Lesley Otieno scored his second goal to make it 4-0.
Ebenezer Assifuah finished the job in the 85th minute. Ghanaian forward who recently signed a new contract with Gor Mahia, came off the bench and struck the fifth goal.
Gor Mahia lead Group A
The convincing win propelled Gor Mahia to the top of the table in Group A ahead of Uganda's Vipers on goal difference.
Burundi had earlier lost the first game of the tournament to the Viperes, 3-0.
Faruk Miya returned to the Ugandan side to tally the second goal of the game.
Now Gor Mahia will try to develop on their impressive start in the regional title race.
