Liverpool ended their four-match losing streak in style, beating Aston Villa 2–0 at Anfield with a composed and commanding display. Goals from Mohamed Salah and Ryan Gravenberch sealed a vital win that lifts Arne Slot’s side back into the Premier League’s top three.

Liverpool produced a much-needed response at Anfield, overcoming Aston Villa 2–0 in a composed and confident performance that marked their first Premier League win in five matches.

After a difficult month that had seen Arne Slot’s side slip down the table, the Reds looked far more assured from the opening whistle. Despite an early scare when Morgan Rogers struck the upright for Villa, Liverpool controlled proceedings with patience and precision, finally breaking through just before half-time.

Aston Villa gifted Liverpool the opener in the 45th minute when goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez’s misplaced pass to Pau Torres was intercepted by Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian forward calmly slotted into an empty net to give the hosts a deserved lead and ease the tension around Anfield.

Liverpool’s control only grew after the interval. Alexis Mac Allister orchestrated play from midfield, and just before the hour mark, he teed up Ryan Gravenberch to double the advantage. The Dutchman’s low drive from the edge of the box deflected off Torres, wrong-footing Martinez to make it 2–0.

From that point, the result was rarely in doubt. Salah, Gakpo, and Bradley all went close to adding a third, but Liverpool’s focus shifted toward game management something they had struggled with in recent weeks. The backline, led by the ever-composed Virgil van Dijk, kept Aston Villa at arm’s length, restricting the visitors to speculative efforts from substitutes Ross Barkley, Donyell Malen, and Jadon Sancho, all of whom failed to trouble Giorgi Mamardashvili.

It was a performance that combined discipline and quality a far cry from Liverpool’s recent displays. Slot’s tactical tweaks paid dividends, with Gravenberch thriving in a box-to-box role and Salah once again decisive in the final third.

Aston Villa, who arrived at Anfield on a four-game winning run, struggled to replicate the form that had propelled them into the top half of the table. Unai Emery’s side were second-best throughout, their pressing disjointed and creativity limited as they slipped to 11th place.

For Liverpool, however, the victory could mark a turning point. Now up to third in the table, the Reds look ready to reignite their title charge, with their intensity and composure finally returning at a crucial stage of the season.
