Raphinha Brace Powers Barcelona Past Feyenoord in Champions League Opener

Raphinha scored twice for Hansi Flick’s side, while Karim Adeyemi, Lamine Yamal and substitute Gabriel Jesus also found the net as the Spanish champions overwhelmed their Dutch visitors. Sem Steijn scored Feyenoord’s consolation.

Barcelona needed less than three minutes to take control of the contest.

Yamal collected possession on the right and found Raphinha, who drove into the penalty area before using an excellent body feint to send two Feyenoord defenders sliding away.

The Brazilian then produced a composed left-footed finish beyond goalkeeper Tjark Ernst to put Barcelona ahead after just two minutes and 50 seconds.

It was an early demonstration of the attacking confidence Barcelona have carried into the new season.

Flick’s side dominated possession and repeatedly moved Feyenoord around the pitch, leaving the visitors struggling to establish any sustained control.

The advantage was doubled in the 22nd minute through another excellent individual finish.

Joao Cancelo found Adeyemi on the left, and the Germany international moved inside before bending a powerful right-footed strike from outside the penalty area into the top-right corner.

It was Adeyemi’s first Champions League goal as a Barcelona player.

Barcelona were firmly in control by that stage.

They had enjoyed 71 percent possession inside the opening 15 minutes and continued to circulate the ball with ease as Feyenoord attempted to remain compact.

The Dutch side did produce occasional moments of danger.

Gjivai Zechiel sent a low half-volley narrowly wide, while Anis Hadj Moussa forced Joan Garcia into a save later in the half.

At the other end, Cancelo struck the woodwork during a rapid Barcelona counter-attack.

Barcelona nevertheless entered half-time with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.

Their superiority was reflected in the numbers, with the hosts recording 74 percent possession and completing 400 accurate passes compared with Feyenoord’s 117 during the opening period. Barcelona had generated 0.72 expected goals compared with Feyenoord’s 0.16.

Feyenoord made a change at the interval, introducing Oussama Targhalline, but Barcelona remained the more dangerous side.

The third goal arrived in the 57th minute.

Pedri split the Feyenoord central defence with a perfectly weighted pass, allowing Raphinha to race through on goal.

The Barcelona captain timed his run well before firing beyond Ernst into the bottom-right corner for his second of the night.

The brace took Raphinha to eight goals in all competitions during his prolific start to the season.

Feyenoord briefly thought they had found a way back into the contest, but two efforts were ruled out for offside.

Nacho Ferri initially found the net after getting in behind Barcelona’s defence before the flag cancelled the goal.

A second effort minutes later suffered the same fate after VAR identified an offside during the build-up.

Barcelona responded by tightening their defensive line and continued searching for more goals.

Yamal eventually added the fourth in the 77th minute.

The teenage winger stood over a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area and curled a superb left-footed effort through the Feyenoord wall and beyond a rooted Ernst.

It was Yamal’s first Champions League goal of the campaign and completed another influential display after he had already created Raphinha’s opener.

Feyenoord finally had something to celebrate five minutes later.

Substitute Goncalo Borges delivered a dangerous cross towards the back post, where Steijn arrived to finish past Garcia and reduce the deficit to 4-1.

The response did little to change the direction of the match.

Flick had already begun using Barcelona’s considerable depth, introducing the likes of Anthony Gordon, Fermin Lopez, Marc Bernal and Gavi.

Gabriel Jesus was then sent on in the 83rd minute for Dani Olmo, making an immediate impact following his arrival from Arsenal.

Only two minutes after entering the pitch, the Brazilian scored his first Barcelona goal.

Yamal delivered an inviting cross into the penalty area and Jesus rose to glance a header into the bottom-left corner, restoring Barcelona’s four-goal advantage.

Jesus almost added another in stoppage time when he headed an Anthony Gordon cross against the top of the crossbar.

The final whistle confirmed a 5-1 victory and a near-perfect opening night for Flick’s team.

Barcelona finished with an expected-goals total of 1.63 compared with Feyenoord’s 0.52 but were significantly more clinical than those numbers suggested.

The result extends Barcelona’s flawless opening to the 2026/27 season after they had already won their first four LaLiga matches and scored 17 league goals before beginning their European campaign.

For a club pursuing its first Champions League title since 2015, the performance represented an imposing early statement.

Feyenoord arrived in Catalonia unbeaten in their opening five domestic matches, but Barcelona’s speed, movement and attacking efficiency proved too much for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side.

Raphinha led the way with another outstanding performance, while Yamal finished with a goal and two assists as Barcelona began their Champions League journey with five goals and three points.
