Real Madrid’s pursuit of Marc Guehi has gained fresh momentum as Crystal Palace consider a January sale to avoid losing their captain for free.

Real Madrid’s defensive rebuild may have received an unexpected boost, with new indications that long-term target Marc Guehi could be on the move sooner than initially expected. The Spanish giants have monitored the Crystal Palace captain for months, and his contract situation is now pushing him closer to the exit door ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Crystal Palace are not ruling out a potential winter sale, mostly to avoid losing the England international for nothing next summer. Guehi has already made his stance clear by refusing to sign a new contract, and with his deal expiring at the end of the current season, Palace’s hierarchy is weighing up the most sensible solution.

Palace’s Position

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner recently addressed the uncertainty during a press briefing, offering clarity amid growing speculation.

“I don’t know, it will be the club’s decision. Marc shows every week that he is 100% committed to Crystal Palace. There’s no need to think about it. We have 15 games until January 10th and he shouldn’t be thinking about a possible sale.

“Of course, we are prepared for anything, but I don’t know what will happen.”

Despite his strong performances and professionalism, Palace understand the reality: once January begins, Guehi is free to negotiate a move to any club without requiring a transfer fee.

Real Madrid in No Rush

For Real Madrid, the situation is straightforward. While they admire Guehi and see him as a strong long-term fit, the club does not intend to engage in a bidding war during the winter window. Their strategy remains focused on long-term planning, with confidence that they can secure the defender on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Even so, Madrid are keeping their options open. Both Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konaté remain above Guehi on the club’s shortlist as Los Blancos explore all possible solutions to reinforce their defensive line for the future.
