Resilient KCB Fight Back to Earn a Vital Point Against Homeboyz at Bukhungu
KCB FC showed character and grit, battling from a goal down to secure a 1–1 draw against Kakamega Homeboyz in a tense SportPesa Premier League clash at Bukhungu Stadium.
KCB FC dug deep to claim a crucial point on the road after a spirited 1–1 draw against Kakamega Homeboyz in a heated SportPesa League encounter at Bukhungu Stadium. It was a match defined by early pressure, wasted chances, and a determined response from the bankers, who refused to leave Kakamega empty-handed.
Homeboyz made the brighter start, pinning KCB back and striking the opener early through Gedeon Bendeka. The forward timed his run perfectly to meet a measured cross from the right flank, finishing with composure to give the hosts a deserved lead. The bankers struggled to settle in the opening exchanges Disemba Kisaka dragged an early effort wide, while Humphrey Mieno was forced into a crucial clearance to prevent what looked like a certain second for Homeboyz.
Kisaka soon began to lift KCB forward with bursts of energy. One of his best moments came from deep in his own half, slicing through midfield before seeing his final effort blocked by a retreating defender. Moments later, Francis Kahiro nearly capitalised on a defensive lapse, but his effort was deflected out for a corner, denying the bankers an equaliser. Homeboyz, too, wasted a golden chance to double their advantage, keeping KCB within touching distance as the sides went into half-time with the hosts leading 1–0.
The momentum shifted in the second half as KCB returned with renewed urgency. Kisaka continued to threaten down the flanks but pushed one attempt just wide as the visitors piled on pressure. Their persistence finally paid off when Boniface Omondi produced a brilliant, composed finish to level the match at 1–1 a moment that lifted the entire KCB side and tilted momentum firmly in their favour.
The bankers nearly completed a dramatic comeback in the dying minutes, wheeling away in celebration after finding the net again, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. It was a cruel twist for a team that had worked tirelessly to turn the game around.
After the final whistle, head coach Robert Matano praised his team’s fighting spirit but underlined the need for sharper finishing.
We started slowly and allowed an early goal, which put us under pressure. But I’m proud of how the boys responded, especially in the second half. We created enough chances to win this game, and that’s an area we must improve on. The fight was good, the spirit was good, and we take this point as we keep pushing,” said Matano.
The draw sees KCB take home a valuable point as they now shift focus to their next fixture against Sofapaka on December 7, 2025, with confidence slowly building in the squad.
