Abala Strike Keeps Shabana’s Sportpesa League Title Dream Alive

Shabana edged Kenya Police 1–0 at the Police Sacco Stadium, a victory powered by discipline, resilience and a decisive Gilbert Abala finish as the title race tightens.

Shabana FC delivered a massive statement in the FKF Premier League title race after grinding out a hard-fought 1–0 win over Kenya Police at the Police Sacco Stadium. It was a match defined by narrow margins, tactical discipline and sheer determination and one that keeps Shabana firmly in the hunt as the season approaches its most heated stretch.

Both sides started brightly, trading early chances without truly testing either goalkeeper. Kenya Police looked threatening in transition, while Shabana maintained calm control in midfield. But it was in the 28th minute that the moment of quality arrived.

Gilbert Abala pounced on a flowing move, finishing with precision to give Shabana the lead and ignite wild celebrations among their travelling supporters. For Kenya Police, it was a painful lapse — the kind title contenders cannot afford in tight encounters.

The second half saw Police respond with urgency. They pushed bodies forward, whipping balls into the Shabana area, but were repeatedly denied by outstanding defensive work, with James Mazembe producing several crucial blocks to keep the score intact.

Shabana’s resolve was tested again in the 77th minute. Marvine Nabwire found space and unleashed a dangerous effort, but goalkeeper Stephen Ochieng reacted superbly, stretching low to make a vital save that safeguarded the precious 1–0 advantage.

From there, Shabana held their nerve. They absorbed pressure, slowed the tempo, and managed the closing stages like a team that understands the stakes. When the final whistle blew, their title hopes had taken another significant step forward.

Elsewhere in league action, Kakamega Homeboyz missed a chance to go top after drawing 1–1 with KCB at Bukhungu Stadium. Boniface Omondi struck the equaliser for KCB, cancelling out the hosts’ earlier lead and leaving Homeboyz stuck in second on 19 points, while the bankers climb to 12th.

Bandari and Ulinzi Stars also shared spoils in a 1–1 draw at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. Masita Masuta struck early for Ulinzi after a Brian Birgen assist, but Darius Msagha punished a defensive lapse in the 59th minute to secure a point for Bandari.

For Shabana, though, the afternoon belonged to grit and belief and with results around them tightening the table, their fans can continue to dream.
