A breathtaking 3-3 draw between RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich delivered drama, tension, and a last-gasp equalizer from Yussuf Poulsen spoiling Bayern’s near-certain title party and keeping the race just barely alive.
Red Bull Arena hosted one of the Bundesliga’s most thrilling spectacles this season, as RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich battled to a dramatic 3-3 draw that had everything—early dominance, a wild comeback, and a heart-stopping finish in added time.
Leipzig came out firing, racing to a surprise 2-0 lead by halftime. Benjamin Sesko opened the scoring in the 11th minute after capitalizing on a Bayern defensive error, and Lukas Klostermann added a second with a looping header off David Raum’s pinpoint free-kick in the 39th.
The visitors looked stunned, and with just one shot on target in the first half, Bayern appeared off the pace. But as so often happens with champions, they came out of the break transformed.
Just past the hour mark, Eric Dier and Michael Olise scored in the span of a minute, leveling the match at 2-2 and shifting the momentum firmly in Bayern’s favor. Their quickfire double rocked the stadium and seemed to deflate Leipzig’s early confidence.
The Bavarians then looked to have completed the ultimate comeback when Leroy Sané buried a low strike in the 83rd minute following a brilliant assist from Joshua Kimmich, putting Bayern 3-2 up and seemingly on course to clinch the Bundesliga title right then and there.
But Leipzig were not done. Deep into stoppage time, Xavi Simons threaded a sublime pass through a crowded box, and Yussuf Poulsen smashed it into the top corner to make it 3-3, sending the home fans into raptures and denying Bayern a definitive crowning moment—at least for now.
Despite the draw, Bayern remain nine points clear of Bayer Leverkusen. Should Leverkusen drop points against Freiburg on Sunday, Vincent Kompany’s side will still secure the title. For Leipzig, the late equalizer keeps them just a point behind Freiburg in the race for the final Champions League spot.
Final score: RB Leipzig 3-3 Bayern Munich.
The title may be within touching distance for Bayern, but they’ll have to wait just a little longer.
