Manchester City continued their impressive European run with a commanding 4–1 triumph over Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium. The hosts were ruthless in attack, scoring twice in each half to record their sixth consecutive home win and move to 10 points in the Champions League table.
Phil Foden opened the scoring midway through the first half, curling home a superb strike from outside the area after a clever pass from Tijjani Reijnders. Moments later, Jérémy Doku’s driving run and low cutback set up Erling Haaland to double City’s lead against his former club the Norwegian’s seventh goal in five European outings this season.
After the break, City picked up where they left off. Foden struck again from distance, finishing clinically after another assist from Reijnders to make it 3–0. Though Dortmund briefly threatened a comeback when Waldemar Anton converted Julian Ryerson’s cross, Rayan Cherki sealed the result in stoppage time with a deflected effort his first Champions League goal.
City were dominant throughout, Gianluigi Donnarumma was rarely troubled, while Kobel’s saves prevented a heavier defeat. Pep Guardiola’s side displayed flashes of their very best football, maintaining their unbeaten run in European home fixtures that stretches back to 2018.
With Liverpool visiting the Etihad this weekend, City’s momentum couldn’t be stronger. Dortmund, meanwhile, must regroup ahead of Bundesliga clashes with Hamburg and Stuttgart before hosting Villarreal later this month.
