SportPesa Eyes KPL Revival with Ksh 2 Billion, 15-Year Sponsorship Deal

Gaming powerhouse SportPesa is negotiating a historic Ksh 2 billion, 15-year partnership with FKF to sponsor the Kenyan Premier League, with clubs set to receive 60% of the funds.

SportPesa in Talks for Historic KPL Sponsorship Deal Worth Ksh 2 Billion, Kenya’s top-flight football could soon receive a major financial boost, as betting giant SportPesa enters advanced discussions with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to become the official sponsor of the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) starting next season.

According to sources close to the negotiations, the proposed deal spans 15 years and is valued at Ksh 2 billion, making it one of the most significant sponsorship agreements in the history of Kenyan football.

The financial structure of the deal is set to transform the landscape of the local game. 60% of the total funding—equivalent to Ksh 1.2 billion—is earmarked for distribution directly to the KPL clubs, ensuring a more stable financial footing for participating teams. The remaining 40% (Ksh 800 million) will go to FKF, supporting league operations and development programs.

The return of SportPesa to football sponsorship marks a potential renaissance for the KPL, which has struggled with consistency and funding in recent years. The last time the league had a major title sponsor was during SportPesa’s previous stint, which ended abruptly in 2019.

This renewed interest comes at a crucial time when clubs are grappling with limited resources, player welfare concerns, and inconsistent league scheduling. Stakeholders view the proposed deal not only as a lifeline but as a strategic investment in the long-term growth and professionalism of Kenyan football.

While the deal is not yet finalized, both FKF and SportPesa are reportedly optimistic about sealing the agreement in time for the 2025/26 season kickoff.

If confirmed, this partnership could usher in a new era of stability, visibility, and growth for the KPL—restoring its stature as one of East Africa’s premier football leagues.

Stay tuned for updates as the negotiations progress.
