Bayern Munich pay £10.2m for Burnley boss Vincent Kompany (reports)

German giants Bayern Munich have reportedly secured Vincent Kompany as their new manager after agreeing a £10.2 million compensation fee with Burnley. This comes after a failed attempt to find a successor for Thomas Tuchel, who will depart the club this summer.

Tuchel's reign ended trophyless, with Bayern finishing a disappointing third in the Bundesliga after a 4-2 defeat to Hoffenheim on the final day. Talks of a potential extension fell through, prompting Bayern to explore other options.

Their initial targets, Bayer Leverkusen's Xabi Alonso and Austria's Ralf Rangnick, didn't materialize. Now, they turn to Kompany, despite Burnley's relegation from the Premier League this season.

Kompany, a former Manchester City defender, started his managerial career with Anderlecht in his native Belgium before taking the Burnley job in 2022. Although he secured a Championship title with Burnley in 2022-23, their Premier League campaign proved difficult, with only five wins leading to their relegation.

Despite the setback, Bayern seem to have faith in Kompany's abilities. It remains to be seen if he can replicate his Championship success on the bigger Bundesliga stage.
